FHWS Little League: McCown's Athletics Beat Undefeated DuBois' Braves

In a long hard-fought game of 9 and 10 year olds in the FHWS Minor Leagues, Dale McCown's Athletics pulled off the upset of the season by beating the Fannett-based Braves, coached by Doug DuBois. Going into the final inning, the Athletics had 10 runs and had held the Braves to only 3 runs the entire game. The final score was 10 to 8, with the Winnie/Stowell-based Athletics claiming the victory.



Bucs Drop Game to Hardin, Tues, 4/15

An early report from Hardin tells Neighborhood Net that the Bucs varsity baseball team lost an important game to Hardin, 8-5. This score has not been officially confirmed yet. The report was that Buc errors played a big role in the loss. In other baseball news, Kountze beat Deweyville, leaving EC, Kountze and Hardin all neck-in-neck for second and third, with a slight edge to Kountze. The Bucs have a bye on Friday and play Deweyville next Tuesday, April 22nd.



Buc Baseball Wins Big Against Kountze

The late-season surge in batting and defensive success for the Bucs varsity baseball team is working well for them, as they knocked off the second-in-district Kountze Lions on Friday, April 11th. In a 12-7 win, the Bucs produced hot bats, good pitching and decisive plays.

Pitcher Trey Lambert pitched all seven innings and also had one of the two home runs of the game. His followed catcher J.T. Hallmark's homer in a back-to-back slug-o-rama.

The Bucs travel to Hardin on Tuesday, April 15th and to Deweyville on Tuesday, April 22nd in the last two games of the regular season. The Bucs are now 6-4 in district play, ahead of Kountze who is 5-4 in district. They are behind 10-0 Buna, who knocked off Deweyville on Friday.

The Bucs finished off a spring break of mixed reviews. After a suspended game resulted in a two-day marathon win for the Bucs against Kountze last Wednesday, they hosted Hardin at home on Thursday and came up short — way short. Hardin won 14-3. The Bucs have a bye tomorrow (Tues - 3/25) and can hopefully nurse some of their injuries, returning to play at home against Deweyville on Friday afternoon at 4:30pm.



Little Dribblers Major All Stars Win Regional Runner-Up, Head to Nationals

The Gulf Coast Little Dribblers Majors All Stars won the runner-up position in their division of the regional tourney, held this weekend at EC, securing themselves a spot in the National tournament in Levelland in mid-April. The Majors lost their first game of the tournament against Hamshire-Fannett 42-36. In a double elimination format, they went on to beat Anahuac 38-16 and then Van Vleck 38-25. Then, in an exciting hard fought game, featuring a last minute surge by the Gulf Coast team, they pulled out a win against Cleveland 42-38.

The Majors All Stars include Brennan Beckett, Trevor Chambliss, Slade Collins, Jarrod Guillory, Blake Johnson, Brandon Johnson, Nick King, Devin Ledoux, Andrew McGovern, Dory Roberts, Cody Tallina, and Alex Walker. Coaches include Bryan Johnson, Danny Chambliss, Johnny Beckett and Greg Ledoux.



Little Dribblers Junior All Stars Win Regionals, Head to Nationals

The Little Dribblers Junior All Stars are on their way to the Nationals after winning the Junior Regional Championship against Cleveland on Saturday 42-21. The win came after two more local wins against Anahuac 44-22 and Hamshire 38-17.

The Little Dribblers Junior National Championship is a four-day tournament that will be held in Levelland, TX this year from April 15th through 19th. The team will be busy raising funds to offset the travel expenses to make the lengthy 10-hour trip.

The Junior All Stars are Tristan Bertrand, Grant Devillier, Darius Guillory, Gerald Johnson, Stevie Johnson, Zy'shonne Johnson, Ethan McAlpin, Skylar McBride, Caleb McLaurin, Tyrel Phelps, Dylan Silcox and Trevor Thomas. The coaches are Everett Guillory, Gerald Johnson and Toby Green.

Those interested in contributing to offset the expenses of the Nationals trip can contact Everett Guillory. Little Dribblers Basketball is a league that is nearly 40 years old and was developed to assist youth with their basketball skills in order to improve the junior high basketball programs.



FHWS Softball Registration Ongoing

Registration is ongoing for the FHWS Girls Softball League. The next registration will be on Saturday, March 29th at H-F Intermediate Gym and at EC Jr High Gym, from noon to 2pm. Try-outs will be the following day, Sunday, March 30th at the softball field on Cook Rd. Registration will continue there, as well. Try-out times on Sunday are T-ball at 2:00 p.m.; Minors at 3:00 p.m.; Majors at 4:00 p.m.; and JR/SR at 5:00 p.m.



Thomas, McDonald Tapped for All SETXSports.com Basketball

The leading regional sports website SETXSports.com announced its All SETXSports.com Boys Basketball team earlier today, with top honors going to EC's own Tramain Thomas for MVP. They also named Vance McDonald to the third team. The list does not distinguish between large or small schools. EC's players were competing with those from area 4A schools, as well.



HI Lady Cards Win Big Against Hull-Daisetta

The High Island Lady Cardinals won in a big way against Hull-Daisetta in a lopsided softball contest on Tuesday, 3/13. With a 27-9 score, the Lady Cards had 11 hits and 5 errors, and McCarley was the winning pitcher. They are 2-0 in District 25A play. John Hughes is the coach.



Bucs Swing Short of the Bleachers Against Warren

What started out good, fell by the wayside Saturday as the Bucs hosted the Warren Warriors in their district opener. Although J.T. Hallmark had a multi-run homer, it wasn’t quite enough, as the Bucs dropped one to Warren, 10-6.

EC Bucs Baseball Coach Roy Mozley announced that the District Opener against the Warren Warriors, originally scheduled for Friday (3/7) afternoon, has been postponed until tomorrow, Saturday (3/8) at 1:00 p.m.

Gulf Coast Youth Baseball Registration for the 2008 season will be Saturday, Feb 2nd and Saturday, Feb 9th at the Pony League Field on Cook Rd from 9 am until Noon. This league is for 13 and 14 year olds.



Bucs Win District Game Over Deweyville

The East Chambers Runnin' Bucs basketball team won Friday night, Jan 11th, against the Deweyville Pirates. Vance McDonald led the Bucs with a 23-point game, followed closely by Tremain Thomas, who shot for 22. The game final was 66-50, EC..

EC travels to Warren on Tuesday, January 15th and then have a bye on Friday, January 18th. The Bucs host the Anahuac Panthers the following Tuesday, Jan 22nd.



Runnin Bucs Open Season

The Runnin Bucs opened their season Tuesday night, November 27, 2007, with a 55-50 win over the Huntington Red Devils.

According to the EC district website, it was a sloppy first outing for the Bucs, but they overcame some early foul trouble and pulled out the win. Leading the way was Tramain Thomas with a game high 30 points. Quentin Joseph scored 8 and Jacoby Carrington added 7 points and pulled down 9 rebounds. The Runnin Bucs travel to Big Sandy this weekend for a tournament. They open up with Kennard Thursday morning at 11:30.

The JV came away with a 38-36 come from behind victory last night. Josh Adamson had 15 points, while James Green and Seth Hunt had 8 points each, to help the JV pick up the victory.

In the freshman game, the Bucs came up short losing by the score of 61-49. Adam Davis and Dallas Gibson both scored 13 points to pace the Bucs.

Bucs Drop One in Lions' Den

The 8-0 Buccaneers had their first loss of the season against Kountze Friday in a game that started with a Lion score on their first possession. The momentum of the game never changed.

The Bucs answered the score with a two-yard run TD by Tramain Thomas and a PAT kick by Carlos Trevino. Then, with 2:43 left in the half, Donte Raymond added another six points to the board with a 38-yard run to the end zone. But, Trevino's kick was wide and the score stayed at 13-7 until the end of the third quarter. With 21 seconds on the clock in the Q3, Kountze answered with a three-yard run and a successful PAT kick followed. The score went unanswered by EC.

Thomas was nursing a leg injury from the Buna game and played through the first half. He went back in for a few key plays in the second half. Vance McDonald was on the sidelines in street clothes due to an injury received in the Buna game the previous week. The Bucs will host Hardin Hornets on Friday.



Lady Bucs Volleyball Hosts the Hardin Hornets

The Lady Bucs lost a close one to Hardin, Tuesday night, October 9, 2007. Game scores were 25-13, 16-25, 19-25, and 21-25.

Charla Thomas topped the Lady Bucs with 5 kills, and the team had an impressive 14 blocks. East Chambers fought hard to stay close to the 2nd place Lady Hornets, but in the end they were too much for EC to handle. The entire varsity volleyball team made a great effort last night against the Hornets.

The junior varsity lost in 2 games 20-25, 23-25. Breanna Joseph and Autumn Scott played great back row defense and Camarie Kear had 9 kills.

The freshmen won 25-20, 25-20. Lesley Valastro lead the team with 2 kills. Abbey Johnson and Lesley Valastro also lead the team in back row passing.

Lady Bucs Volleyball Sweeps the Pirates in Deweyville

Friday night all three Lady Buc volleyball teams were victorious. The varsity won in 4 games, 22-25, 25-10, 25-21, and 25-22.

After losing a close first game, the Lady Bucs took care of business with Jordyn Kurek and Lindsey McDonald serving the way. In game three, EC finally started hitting the ball well on the front row with Tayler Kurek leading the way. Game four was a close one, but Tiffany Tezeno had 2 monster kills to put away the Pirates. This moves the Lady Bucs to 3-3 in district play.

The junior varsity won 25-10, 25-20 and the freshmen won 25-23, 25-14. Leading players for the JV were Shaena Oldham and Camarie Kear and for the freshmen Abbey Johnson and Carson Campbell.

Coach Johnson -"I thought the girls at all three levels really stepped up and played hard. With so many distractions going on, all the coaches were real proud of the effort."

Houston Chronicle Ranks EC Bucs #3

The Houston Chronicle Sports writers didn't have East Chambers ranked in their 2A listing last week, after a decisive win over 3A Hamshire-Fannette. But, after the Bucs took the wings off of the 3A Hardin Jefferson Hawks, the 4-0 Bucs are now ranked number three in the Houston area poll, just ahead of Hardin, who beat 1A High Island last week. The Bucs have a bye this week.



ECISD JH and JV Games Cancelled for 9/13
